Why THe NAME AV8?

Cloud Computing

Cloud Native Software and The CNCF

Cloud Native Software and The CNCF

The name AV8 comes from the word Aviate. Which means to pilot or fly in an aircraft. Where do aircrafts fly? In the sky. What's in the sky? The Clouds! Cloud Computing is one of the biggest concepts of the current era of Information Technology. It allows the delivery of everything an application needs to operate in a production manner such as networking, servers, databases, storage and more by offering them as services that can be managed from anywhere in the world using the internet. Cloud Computing has become the cornerstone of modern IT.

Our name also comes from the idea of software being cloud native. Cloud Computing allowed software to be built in a decoupled, distributed, portable, and scalable architecture. This new way of building software became known as "Cloud Native". The Cloud Native Computing Foundation is a subsidiary of the Linux Foundation and they host some of the biggest tech events, provide cloud native training and certifications, and they also own most of the open source software used by companies all around the world to power their cloud native ecosystems.

Kubernetes

Cloud Native Software and The CNCF

Kubernetes

The spelling of our name comes from Kubernetes, which is widely considered the de facto standard for container orchestration. Kubernetes is often abbreviated as K8s because there are 8 letters between the K and the S. It is probably the most popular software owned by the CNCF as they have a whole event (KubeCon) dedicated to it. It allows applications to be decoupled from things such as secrets access, service discovery, and storage. It also adds the benefit of enhanced scalability, self-healing, and portability for cloud native software.
